Hamas Softens Stance and Resumes Negotiations on Ceasefire Agreement with Israel

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 6, the radical Palestinian organization Hamas agreed to the US-backed Gaza 3-phase ceasefire proposal and is currently negotiating a ceasefire agreement with Israel. According to CNN, Hamas officials have abandoned their previous demand for Israel to commit to a permanent ceasefire before signing any agreement and have agreed to begin negotiations on the first phase. This development marks the closest the two sides have come to reaching a consensus since last year's conflict, with Israel's ceasefire pledge and Hamas softening its stance being key factors in the resumption of ceasefire negotiations.
