Due to intense convective activity in the afternoon, 7 counties and cities in Taiwan are prone to short periods of heavy rainfall today, prompting the Central Weather Bureau to issue special heavy rain alerts, urging people to be cautious of lightning and strong gusts of wind, as well as landslides and falling rocks in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas. The East Maintenance Engineering Division of the Highway Bureau also warns of a landslide at 39.8km on both sides of Provincial Highway No. 9 Section 39.8K (Guanyin Road), advising travelers not to pass through. Various areas are under heavy rain alerts, with thunderstorm warnings issued for Hualien and Taitung counties. People are advised to stay indoors and avoid risky locations during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, and to drive carefully on slippery roads with reduced visibility.
