As people take advantage of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday to travel, several highways in Taiwan experienced congestion with speeds as low as 30-40 km/h by 9:30 am today. The Highways Bureau estimates a traffic volume of 118 million vehicle kilometers, advising travelers on the southern bound of the Western National Highway to depart after 12 pm and those on National Highway 5 to leave after 5 pm to avoid traffic jams. Several key congested sections were identified, and the bureau recommended cautious driving with safe distances. Additionally, special traffic controls will be implemented on Northbound lanes of National Highway 5 to Su'ao, Luodong, Yilan, and Toucheng tomorrow and the day after from 1 pm to 6 pm.
