A man in Kaohsiung was rumored to have died from a brain-eating amoeba last summer, sparking panic; however, the Health Bureau revealed today that the man's biopsy results showed a suspected case of amoebic dysentery, not the common 'Naegleria fowleri amoeba' known as brain-eating amoeba. The man, aged 69, sought treatment at Chang Gung Hospital in Kaohsiung due to symptoms like headache and loss of appetite, leading to brain surgery and diagnosis of 'Naegleria fowleri amoeba' infection, commonly known as brain-eating amoeba, ultimately resulting in death after a month of treatment. The Health Bureau advised caution to avoid water entering the nasal cavity while swimming to prevent such infections.
