In a case from Taichung in May 2023 where a high school student with a 500 million inheritance from a fallen property registered marriage with a man, they were both suspected of a fake marriage by the prosecution. The man was found guilty of forging documents and sentenced to 1 year 6 months in prison after the court trial. The court pointed out that the man knew there was no genuine intention to marry, and they had no intimate interactions before the student passed away. Witnesses confirmed the lack of genuine marriage intentions, leading to the heavy sentencing. The father of the man, who had handled the student's inheritance, was previously suspected of murder but was not prosecuted due to insufficient evidence.
