Recently, during heavy rainstorms, parents chatting with children studying at a prestigious high school about Yu the Great's flood control were shocked to find the kids had no idea who Yu was. This led to speculations if the 108 history curriculum was influencing this. Lawyer Lu Qiuyuan suggested that instead of focusing on myths like Yu, young people should learn about historical figures who contributed to Taiwan or the world. He emphasized the importance of teaching meaningful history rather than expecting students to remember mythical stories. Lu also highlighted the achievements of Japanese engineer Yatta Ichi, known for significant irrigation projects, as a figure worth honoring and learning about.
