High Temperature Work Measures: Labor Ministry Emphasizes Heat Hazard Prevention Instead of Mandatory Leave

Reported about 1 year ago

With the increasing global warming, Taiwan's subtropical climate experiences extremely hot summers with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius being common. This poses a risk of heat hazards for outdoor workers. A survey indicates a high willingness among laborers for heat-related leaves and allowances, with some companies supporting the idea. However, there are no precedents in Europe and America, so the focus is currently on preventative measures for heat hazards rather than mandatory leave. The Central Weather Bureau reports a rise in average temperatures, with June being the fourth hottest month since 1950. Health Ministry statistics show an increase in heat-related illnesses, with many calling for regulations on heat allowances and leaves. Although some European countries have enacted laws to protect outdoor workers from extreme heat, Taiwan is considering suitable measures for different industries to prevent heat hazards and ensure safety and health for laborers.
