Reported 9 months ago

On April 21, 2022, former President of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernandez was arrested and prepared for extradition to the United States to stand trial. Following his term as president, Hernandez was arrested in February 2022 for involvement in drug trafficking and was sentenced by a US court to 45 years in prison on June 26, 2024. The prosecution stated that Hernandez assisted in trafficking at least 400 tons of cocaine valued at about $10 billion to the US, contributing to addiction and violence. Hernandez, who served as president from 2014 to 2022, used his power to lower the risks for drug traffickers and provide support from the military and police, leading to his conviction by a New York court.
