Hong Kong Pastor Attacked in Public by Previous Offender for Not Understanding Cantonese Phrase Leading to Court Case

Reported 10 months ago

The man suspected of attacking Hong Kong pastor, Jiang, was Lin. In a conflict in March with Lin, Jiang unintentionally offended Lin by speaking a Cantonese phrase that Lin interpreted as an insult, leading to Lin attacking Jiang with a knife before fleeing to Hualien. Although they reached a settlement and Lin agreed to compensation, Jiang did not withdraw his complaint. The Taipei Prosecutors' Office decided Lin committed assault and applied for a summary judgment. Jiang, previously accused of participating in an unlawful assembly in Causeway Bay in 2021 and for selling provocative books in Mong Kok in 2021, leading to a jail sentence, moved to Taiwan in October 2021. The incident occurred in Taipei in March 2024, resulting in Jiang being stabbed by Lin. Lin, with a criminal record, was arrested in Hualien and faced prosecution in Taiwan. Prosecutors charged Lin with assault due to the attack on Jiang.
