A recent survey by Mercer revealed the top 10 cities with the highest cost of living for expatriates, with Taipei City ranking 69th, relatively friendly compared to others. Hong Kong claimed the number one spot, followed by Singapore in second place. Other cities in the top 10 include various cities in Switzerland, New York in the US, London in the UK, Nassau in the Bahamas, and Los Angeles in the US. Reasons for the high cost of living include expensive housing markets, goods, and services. Asian cities saw a slight decline in rankings, with Seoul dropping 16 places to 32nd, Tokyo in Japan at 49th, and Taipei dropping 12 places to 69th.
