Housing Inflation Remains Unexpectedly High in August CPI Report

Reported 4 months ago

The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report reveals that housing inflation continues to rise, with shelter costs increasing by 0.5% month-over-month in August, surpassing July’s increase of 0.4%. This has surprised economists who anticipated a slowdown in rental price increases. Even with an influx of new apartment supplies, rents only slightly declined. The overall CPI increased by 0.2% month-over-month, remaining consistent with July. Experts believe a more consistent decline in rental prices may occur eventually, though timing remains uncertain.
