As the Dragon Boat Festival wraps up, nutritionist Tian Wanrong from Cathay General Hospital advises consuming a maximum of 1 zongzi per day, accompanied by plenty of vegetables and fruits to balance the diet, and to go easy on the dipping sauces to avoid excessive sodium intake. She suggests opting for smaller zongzi or sharing with family and friends to reduce calorie intake, and emphasizes the importance of pairing zongzi with blanched greens, vegetable soup, and fruits for a balanced diet. Excessive condiments like sweet and spicy sauce or peanut powder can increase calorie and sodium intake, urging caution for hypertension patients. Maintaining physical activity with at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week is recommended for overall health and weight management, ensuring future enjoyment of zongzi without fear of gaining weight.
