In response to the increasing rent prices due to rising property costs in Hsinchu, many young professionals earning only 30,000 to 40,000 NTD per month find it challenging to afford rent above 10,000 NTD. The city government introduced an annual 6,000 NTD rent subsidy, but only 231 cases have been approved so far, representing 5% of the target. The county government is considering following the city's lead based on the rental market situation. While social housing projects in Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan have been completed, Hsinchu still lacks such developments, leaving people unable to buy homes facing an unfriendly rental market. Measures to expand the subsidy eligibility and review the subsidy amount for single individuals under 20 are being discussed. Councilors emphasize the need for more affordable quality housing options and support for youth renters.
