Environment Minister Peng Qiming visited the garbage landfills in Hsinchu County's Xinfeng and Jhudong on June 22, 2024. He was shocked by the mountains of trash, describing it as 'truly spectacular.' Peng noted the severe garbage accumulation issue and poor waste sorting, including piles of plastic waste and large mattresses. The Environmental Protection Bureau promised to alleviate the situation with a waste incinerator by the end of the year and prioritizing the landfill in Jhudong due to its location in a water conservation area. Peng emphasized the need for waste reduction and lifestyle changes, expressing concerns over the gap between Hsinchu's rapid development and infrastructure, and pledged the Environment Ministry's assistance in tackling the issue.
