On the evening of July 1, 2024, heavy rainfall in Shulin Township, Hualien County, led to significant mudslides at 163.4 km and 163.9 km of Tai-9 Highway. As a result, the north-south road was closed for traffic. Workers were dispatched to deal with the situation, but ongoing heavy rains forced the temporary closure of the northbound lane from Chongde to Horen, with plans to reopen by noon on the following day. Additionally, due to mudslides at Chongde on Tai-9 Highway, severe mudslides occurred at two locations between Chongde and Horen. Despite some repairs, delays are expected on the railway between Chongde and Horen.
