Hualien Tourism Suffers After Earthquake! Hotels Temporarily Shut Down, Room Reservation Rate Drops to Only 10%

Reported 6 months ago

Following the strong earthquake of magnitude 6.8 that hit Hualien County on April 3, the tourism industry has been severely affected. Several hotels like the Silks Place Taroko, Cingjing Elegance, Mountain and Moon Village, Double Q Forest Lodge, Blue Sky Hotel, and Lishan Hotel have voluntarily closed down. Due to poor performance, the overall hotel occupancy rate in June is only 8%, with a peak of 15% on the second day of the Dragon Boat Festival, compared to the usual 70-80% booking rate during summer holidays in previous years. Despite the government's tourism revitalization plan offering discounts for individual guests, the industry remains pessimistic about the situation and hopes for further assistance to recover from the earthquake aftermath.
