Huang Renxun criticized for strolling in night market and looking down on Taiwanese people, sparks debate among netizens

Reported 11 months ago

On June 8, 2024, commentator Zi Yu criticized Huang Renxun, the founder of NVIDIA, for strolling in the night market to please Taiwanese people, claiming it belittles the cultural capital and humanistic qualities of Taiwan. After facing backlash from netizens, Zi Yu deleted the post but later explained that night markets may not necessarily represent Taiwanese culture. Zi Yu emphasized that for street food to become culture, it needs a special meaning, using examples such as Korean fried chicken associated with snowfall in a TV drama to illustrate the process of turning food into cultural assets. Zi Yu concluded by stating that night markets do not inherently represent Taiwanese culture and require marketing and packaging to do so.
