Hungary Maintains Key Interest Rate Amid Rising Inflation

Reported about 10 hours ago

Hungary's central bank decided to keep its key interest rate unchanged at 6.5% for the fifth consecutive month amid increasing inflation pressures, which reached a 13-month high of 5.5% in January. The decision, made in the final meeting chaired by Governor Gyorgy Matolcsy, reflects concerns over sustained inflation levels and limits the monetary policy options for incoming Governor Mihaly Varga, who has pledged to prioritize price stability. The forint has recently strengthened, but economic uncertainties remain as inflation forecasts are expected to rise.
