Hurricane 'Beryl' to Hit Texas After Causing 11 Deaths in the Caribbean and Devastating Mexican Tourist Destination

Reported about 1 year ago

Hurricane Beryl caused damage to several ships in Barbados in the Caribbean Sea, resulting in 11 deaths in the Caribbean and destruction in the Mexican tourist destination of Tulum. As Beryl strengthens in the Gulf of Mexico, it is expected to make landfall in Texas tomorrow (7/7), prompting officials to urge evacuations for low-lying residents and increased alertness for coastal residents. Although Tulum was left in ruins, there were no casualties. In Jamaica, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and northern Venezuela, at least 11 people lost their lives due to the hurricane. Significant damage was reported in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica, with widespread power outages and water shortages. Prior to its impact on Mexico, Hurricane Beryl also hit the Yucatan Peninsula, leaving Tulum streets in disarray but miraculously causing no casualties. In preparation for Beryl's expected landfall in Texas, sandbags were distributed to residents, and disaster warnings were issued by the governor for 40 counties, allowing for preemptive response plans to be put in place.
