A group including Immigration Admission visited the Executive Yuan on the morning of June 19, 2024, to appeal, with a deputy from the Executive Yuan's Department of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Legal Affairs accepting the petition. The Legislative Yuan's Internal Affairs Committee passed the initial review of the 'New Resident Basic Law' draft last Wednesday, preserving some articles for further consultation between the ruling and opposition parties. The committee also resolved for the Executive Yuan to submit its draft to the Legislative Yuan for review by June 21 and to have consultations involving both parties. Over a dozen groups concerned about the 'New Resident Basic Law,' including the Southeast Asian Sisters in Taiwan, urged the new cabinet led by Prime Minister Cho Rong-tae, which assumed office on May 20, to respond to the needs of immigrant workers in the draft 'New Resident Basic Law' version to be submitted to the parliament this week.
