Petronas, Malaysia's state-owned oil and gas company, is in advanced discussions to purchase at least one million metric tons per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas from Commonwealth LNG's facility in Louisiana. This move reflects a broader trend among Asian countries to boost imports of U.S. LNG to improve trade balances and mitigate high tariffs. Commonwealth LNG has recently received its export license and is seeing increased interest from buyers as it develops its 9.5 mtpa plant.
