Delaying Medicare enrollment can lead to lifelong penalties unless you or your spouse is still employed with an organization that has 20 or more employees, allowing you to maintain your employer-provided health insurance without penalty. If your employment ends or you lose coverage, you'll have eight months to enroll without facing penalties. Additionally, delaying enrollment allows continued contributions to a Health Savings Account, which are not permitted once enrolled in Medicare.
