A father and son involved in the sugar industry were convicted of importing sugar past the deadline, which led to the health bureau seizing the questionable sugar. Shockingly, the father and son illegally opened the sealed sugar and moved over 2,000 packs before being caught. Initially sentenced to 1 year and 2 months, they appealed and the Kaohsiung High Court reduced their sentence to 8 months with a 3-year probation, along with a fine of 500,000 NT dollars to the treasury. The court discovered the breach during an inspection in May 2019, finding only 876 packs remaining out of the original 2,880. It's a cautionary tale against unlawful acts.
