Increase in Local Mumps Cases! NHI Reveals Surge by 6 Cases This Year, Highlighting 'This Country'

Reported 9 months ago

According to Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) statistics, there have been six new cases of locally transmitted mumps (Mpox) in June. The surge comes after a period of silence in mumps outbreaks, prompting health authorities to urge eligible individuals to complete two doses of the mumps vaccine for enhanced protection. With 16 new cases reported this year, including 13 locally transmitted and three imported cases, the mumps situation in Taiwan is intensifying, with cases in various regions indicating ongoing community transmission risk. The World Health Organization data shows a global average of almost 800 new mumps cases per month. The NHI emphasizes the importance of vaccination as the most effective preventive measure against mumps, especially with increased social activities during the summer vacation and upcoming festivals. Eligible individuals are advised to promptly receive both doses of the mumps vaccine for safeguarding against the virus.
