India Attracting Global Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers

Reported 8 months ago

Due to the tension between China and the United States, global tech giants are reconsidering their supply chain layouts, with India emerging as the next major manufacturing hub in Asia. The Indian government is actively attracting global semiconductor equipment manufacturers to accelerate the development of its semiconductor industry. Companies like Tokyo Electron, DISCO, Canon, Tokyo Precision, and Daifuku from Japan, as well as Applied Materials, Lam Research, and KLA from the United States, are participating in the SEMI semiconductor exhibition in India for the first time in September this year. Apple has already moved some iPhone production lines to India, drawing semiconductor companies to establish factories there. With collaborations such as Tata Group partnering with Taiwan's TSMC to build a wafer packaging facility in Gujarat, and Micron and Renesas Electronics also setting up chip plants in India, the semiconductor market in India is projected to reach $64 billion in revenue by 2026. Despite infrastructure challenges hindering semiconductor industry development, experts predict India's entrance into the top five global chip ecosystem by 2029 due to its tech innovation and market growth potential.
