Indonesian Fisherman from Penghu Dies after Suspectedly Eating Poisonous Snails on Fishing Boat

According to SETN News on June 21, 2024, a 36-year-old Indonesian fisherman aboard the Penghu-registered fishing boat Shing Jyh Fon 6 in Wangan, Penghu, died after experiencing stomach pain and vomiting symptoms, suspectedly from consuming poisonous snails. Despite being rushed to medical care on Dongsha Island, he tragically passed away. The incident raised concerns as other crew members mentioned past cases of poisoning from consuming snails, with suspicions pointing towards Cone Snails. Cone Snails are known for being most toxic from April to September, causing symptoms like dizziness, vomiting, and in severe cases, even death.
