An inmate named Wang, currently imprisoned until January 20, 2031, in Taipei Prison, filed an administrative lawsuit against Taoyuan Election Commission's decision to place the polling station at a community center in Guishan District instead of the prison, where he could not access it, during the 2020 presidential election. Taipei High Administrative Court ruled in Wang's favor, recognizing the illegal act by Taoyuan Election Commission, allowing them to appeal. The court emphasized that inmates have the right to vote, and placing a polling station in the prison would lower administrative costs and risks, benefiting about 271 inmates. The court criticized the commission for systematically excluding inmates from exercising their voting rights, stating that this inaction was a violation of their electoral rights.
