Insight into Entertainment: Online Platforms Expand Diverse Markets with Yuri Manga Focused on Female Relationships

Reported about 1 year ago

Describing 'female friendships,' yuri manga, while not mainstream, has a loyal readership base. With the rise of Taiwanese internet manga platforms in recent years, more creators are gaining opportunities to showcase their works, leading to the growth of local yuri manga. Collaborating with playwright Chen Qiaorong, manga artist Monday Recycling created 'The End of the Cat and the Sea,' a story about girls' growth, which won the Silver Award at the Japan International Manga Awards and sold rights in 5 languages. The term 'yuri' now broadly refers to 'female relationships,' covering love, family, and friendship, with Taiwanese culture experiencing a surge in commercial yuri manga. Monday Recycling, known for their yuri creations, also introduced 'Pink Ribbon,' which won the 2019 Golden Manga Award for Girls' Manga and the Manga of the Year Award. Yuri manga is expanding in Taiwan, diversifying from traditional romance themes to explore various facets of female relationships, aiming to attract a wider audience.
