Intense Afternoon Downpour Causes Flooding in Tucheng, New Taipei City

On June 18, 2024, a front caused unstable weather conditions near New Taipei City, leading to intense afternoon convection and heavy rainfall. Tucheng in New Taipei City experienced significant flooding with water pooling on the streets resembling small ponds. Motorcyclists sought shelter under convenience store awnings due to heavy rain. The Central Weather Bureau issued heavy rain alerts for areas north of Changhua, including Nantou, Yilan, and Hualien, warning of thunderstorms, strong gusts, and potential landslides. Water resource authorities issued flood alerts for various areas, including a Level 1 alert for Nuannuan District in Keelung and Level 2 alerts for Qidu District and Ren'ai District in Keelung, as well as Ruifang District in New Taipei City.
