On June 12, 2024, Japanese senior media personality Yatabe Akio expressed in a lecture titled 'President Lai's Governance and Cross-Strait Situation' at National Chengchi University's national security program that despite China's dissatisfaction with President Lai Ching-te's cross-strait policies, their available means are limited, and with strong support from the international community including the US and Japan, the possibility of maintaining a 'fight without breaking' between the two sides is high for some time. Yatabe stated that China's influence on Taiwan has focused on military intimidation, diplomatic isolation, and economic sanctions, but these tactics are becoming less effective. Yatabe highlighted the need for President Lai to focus on guarding the Legislative Yuan and social media platform TikTok, as they could potentially be vulnerable points for Chinese infiltration into Taiwan, with netizens echoing concerns about such threats.
