On July 6, 2024, Iranian reformist presidential candidate Masoud Pezeshkian won in the second round of the election to become Iran's new president. Pezeshkian defeated the hardliner candidate Saeed Jalili. With 1.63 million votes, Pezeshkian secured the presidency, emphasizing moderate political views within the Iranian reformist camp. He aims to enhance relations, especially with the United States, and prioritize lifting Western sanctions on Iran. Following the election results, Pezeshkian's win needs approval from the Iranian Guardian Council, then he will receive the presidential inauguration from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei before presenting a cabinet list to the parliament for review.
