On June 29, 2024, the Israeli Embassy in Serbia was attacked with a crossbow, resulting in 1 policeman getting shot in the neck and retaliating by killing the bow user. The incident, described by Serbian President Vucic as a terrorist attack, occurred in Belgrade. The attacker, identified as Salahudin Zujovic, had converted to Islam from Serbian Orthodoxy. Despite tracking the attackers, Serbian security forces could not detain them earlier. The Israeli Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude for the Serbian policeman's bravery and emphasized enhanced security for all foreign missions. The embassy temporarily closed for investigation, with no embassy personnel injured. The incident highlighted ties to Wahhabi extremism, previously monitored by authorities in relation to a 2009 plot targeting a Serbian town's football stadium populated by moderate Muslims.
