Ivory Coast: At least 24 dead as week-long heavy rain causes floods and landslides

As the summer rainy season arrives, many countries are facing disasters. In Ivory Coast, Abidjan, the largest city, has experienced floods and landslides after a week of heavy rain, resulting in at least 24 deaths. Ivory Coast, located in West Africa, has been hit hard by the recent unusually intense rainfall, with some areas receiving over 200mm of rain in a day, four times the usual amount. Abidjan alone received about a quarter of the expected three-month rainfall in just 24 hours. The floods and landslides have caused severe damage in the city, with houses and roads submerged, and rescue efforts have saved 271 people while 24 have died so far.
