Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuya Endo stated on July 4 that the negotiations regarding the Mutual Access Agreement (RAA) between Japan and the Philippines are nearing completion, with the possibility of an official signing during the upcoming 2+2 diplomatic and defense meeting on July 8. This agreement is expected to significantly enhance cooperation in defense and regional security between Japan and the Philippines. Both parties are optimistic about finalizing the RAA, with potential advancements in defense equipment transfer after the signing. The Philippines Chief of Staff also expressed hope for the official signing of the agreement during the 2+2 meeting in Manila. The agreement was initiated following a meeting between Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga last year, emphasizing the importance of stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
