Japan's Doctor Yellow Shinkansen to Retire, Makes Brief Appearance at Tokyo Station

The iconic Doctor Yellow Shinkansen, known as 'Doctor Yellow,' which is a track inspection vehicle on the Tokaido Shinkansen in Japan, is set to retire in January 2025. JR Tokai Company arranged for the train to make a brief stop at Tokyo Station on the 14th, allowing rail fans to take close-up photos and creating excitement among train enthusiasts. This distinctive yellow vehicle, responsible for inspecting tracks and devices on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen lines, has been a symbol of good luck and a favorite among the Japanese public. JR Tokai and JR West Japan companies announced plans to replace their aging track inspection vehicles by 2025 and after 2027 respectively, with the former currently having two Doctor Yellow trains. After retirement, the inspection function will be integrated into new N700S model trains.
