Japan Supports Major Banks in Stablecoin Project

The Japanese government, through its Financial Services Agency, has announced its support for a joint project by the country's three largest banks—Mitsubishi UFJ, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Mizuho—to issue stablecoins for cross-border payments. Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama noted the importance of ensuring that the service operates legally and appropriately.
