Japanese authorities inspect Toyota headquarters for certification irregularities

Reported 4 months ago

Japanese transport ministry officials conducted an on-site investigation at Toyota Motor's headquarters following certification irregularities found in its vehicle model applications. The fallout from a safety test scandal at Toyota's Daihatsu unit has also impacted other Japanese automakers like Mazda, Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha Motor, all of whom submitted flawed or manipulated data for certification. Toyota, the first to undergo inspection, is suspending sales of three affected models, but analysts believe the impact on domestic sales will be limited as consumers have few alternatives. The scandal could affect Japan's economy if subcontractors in the automotive supply chain face disruptions, potentially impacting growth this quarter.
