As of June 15, 2024, the railway line 'Yamanosu Yūkari Line' in the new town of Yūkarigaoka, Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan has introduced a system for boarding and alighting using face recognition, making it the first in the country to do so. Passengers register their credit card and facial information on a dedicated website, then simply have their face scanned by tablets at the ticket gates to board the train, even with luggage in hand. The system, implemented by the real estate company Yaman, has also been introduced on the community bus running in the same area, aiming to enhance convenience and streamline ticket processes.
