Japanese transport panel recommends air traffic control measures for safety improvement post-Haneda crash

Reported about 1 year ago

In response to a fatal collision between a Japan Airlines jetliner and a coast guard plane at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, a Japanese transport ministry panel proposed air traffic control measures to enhance safety, such as hiring more staff at major airports, introducing supplementary alert systems, and implementing Runway Status Lights. The recommendations aim to reduce air traffic controllers' workload, particularly at Haneda Airport and seven other busy airports, following the incident that occurred on January 2 involving JAL Flight 516 and the coast guard aircraft. The report also suggested adding an alert sound to aircraft position monitoring as a backup measure.
