A Kansas businessman, Douglas Edward Robertson, plead guilty to illegally exporting sensitive aviation technology to Russian companies in violation of U.S. sanctions. Operating the KanRus Trading Co. with Cyril Gregory Buyanovsky, they sought to export electronics including threat detection systems and flight controls to Russia, hiding their activities through various companies and bank accounts. Robertson entered his plea before U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree and could face up to 20 years in prison for either money laundering or export violations convictions. Buyanovsky has already pleaded guilty, while a Latvian associate, Oleg Chistyakov, is under arrest in Latvia awaiting potential extradition to the U.S.
