On June 28, 2024, Ker Chien-ming, the DPP caucus chief in the Legislative Yuan, was fined 2,000 NT dollars by the Taipei City Health Bureau for smoking indoors at the Legislative Yuan, reported by SET News. Ker was reported by Taipei City Councilor Liu Tsai-wei, and despite being given a 7-day period to explain, he did not provide any clarification. The Health Bureau confirmed the violation based on evidence and footage, marking the first substantiated case after previous complaints lacking clear evidence. Ker admitted during a prior interview that it was a bad example, and appropriate penalties should be imposed.
