Kuwait's ruling emir has named Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Sabah as the new crown prince, who will be next in line to the throne. The 71-year-old Sheikh Sabah has previously served as prime minister and foreign minister in the country. The announcement came amidst domestic political disputes, including changes to the welfare system, resulting in Kuwait facing financial challenges despite its immense oil wealth and longstanding alliance with the United States.
