Lai Ching-te was questioned in the past but now deemed unconstitutional, People First Party criticizes: Pre-election vows turn into post-election misconduct

Reported 11 months ago

Chen Chu-Jie on June 12, 2024 at 1:05 a.m., the People First Party legislative caucus held a press conference titled 'Parliamentary Reform is Not Unconstitutional; Democratic Progressive Party Creates Endless Troubles'. The People First Party criticized President Lai Ching-te for accepting inquiries during the election but now the DPP claims it's unconstitutional, stating it's a case of 'pre-election vows becoming post-election misconduct'. They also questioned the absurd reasons presented by the Executive Yuan for a reconsideration regarding the 'Legislative Yuan's Exercise of Powers Act' and certain amendments to the 'Criminal Code'. The People First Party emphasized that the reform process fully adhered to existing laws through committee reviews, public hearings, and party negotiations, but the Executive Yuan refused to respect the majority's aspiration for parliamentary reform, attempting to override the majority by unreasonably deeming the revisions unconstitutional.
