The Ministry of the Interior has recently revised the regulations on electricity fees for rented houses, announcing that the new rules will take effect on July 15. Under the new system, electricity fees for landlords cannot exceed the average electricity price per unit, and if not calculated based on usage, the fees collected must not exceed the total amount per billing period. Existing lease agreements are not affected unless both parties agree to apply the new regulations. The ministry will enforce penalties ranging from 30,000 to 500,000 NTD for landlords found overcharging, underscoring the need for compliance with consumer protection laws.
