On June 23, 2024, at around 10:44 AM, an earthquake struck Taiwan in the late evening around 22:27, felt primarily in the Hualien area. According to data from the Central Weather Bureau, the earthquake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 17 kilometers. The epicenter was near the sea off Hualien County, with intensities of 4 in Hualien and Nantou, 3 in Yilan, Taitung, Taichung, Yunlin, and Chiayi, and 2 in Miaoli, Changhua, Hsinchu County, Chiayi City, Tainan, and New Taipei City, and 1 in Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Taipei, Hsinchu City, Pingtung, and Penghu.
