Lawsuit settled in 2019 Golden Ray sinking off Georgia coast

Reported about 1 year ago

A federal lawsuit filed in 2022 over the sinking of the Golden Ray cargo ship, carrying $142 million worth of cargo when it capsized off the coast of Georgia in September 2019, has been settled. The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel sank after leaving the Port of Brunswick with nearly 4,200 vehicles. The settlement details were not disclosed, and the sinking was attributed to an error by the chief officer. The aftermath caused environmental and economic harm, including fires and oil spills.
