On July 4, 2024, during an inspection in the Hsinchu area, Legislator Zheng expressed discontent towards the Directorate General of Highways (DGH) for their prolonged failure to clarify maintenance responsibilities regarding slope areas in cooperation with the Hsinchu City Government, criticizing their passive attitude. Zheng demanded a specific timeline for completing the clarification work, with the DGH promising to do so within a month. This issue stemmed from a fatal incident caused by a tree collapse on a slope road, leading to unclear maintenance responsibilities. Despite Zheng's previous coordination efforts in April, a resolution to delineate responsibilities swiftly, the DGH's delayed progress left Zheng unsatisfied, highlighting the urgency to prevent similar incidents by promptly establishing maintenance responsibilities for the city's unclear areas to protect public safety and interests.
