Due to hot weather and a high number of tourists, Little Liuqiu, a remote island in Pingtung County, experienced an hour-long power outage last night at 7:30 pm as the main switch tripped at Taiwan Power. The momentary load reached 12,475 kW, breaking the record high. Taiwan Power mentioned ongoing voltage improvement projects on the island to increase power supply capacity. The power outage happened during dinner time, with many residents dining in the dark. Taiwan Power emphasized the need for adjusting the power supply capability to meet the increasing demand during peak travel seasons and high temperatures.
