In the TV drama 'Listening to the Waves', actors Wu Han-lin, Huang Guan-zhi, and Zhu You-cheng portray three brothers who, as Taiwanese prisoners of war under Japanese supervision during World War II, become entangled in a brutal massacre, making their journey home extremely difficult. Golden Bell Best Supporting Actor winner Huang Guan-zhi described feeling lonely, misunderstood, and abandoned like his character during filming, needing chats with the director and fellow actors to adjust his mood. The actors shared the heavy emotional toll of their roles and coping mechanisms; for example, Zhu You-cheng admitted to occasionally struggling to detach from his character and needing deep breaths to calm down.
