On June 10, 2024, at around 11 am, a mainland Chinese man drove a speedboat toward Tamsui Ferry Terminal, claiming he wanted to 'seek freedom.' He has been transferred to the Shilin District Prosecutor's Office for investigation. Local Kuomintang legislator Hung Meng-kai, representing the Tamsui area, expressed shock over the incident, urging the national security unit to swiftly clarify the man's intentions. Hung emphasized the need for self-restraint in the current tense cross-strait situation and commended the coast guard's quick response in apprehending the man intruding into Taiwan's waters. He called for a speedy investigation into the purpose of the man's speedboat docking in Tamsui.
